County will offer subsidy for flood-related waste disposal costs

Posted on Friday June 09, 2017

Cobourg, ON – June 9, 2017 – In light of ongoing, widespread flooding in parts of Northumberland, the County has developed a program to provide financial relief to individuals who have directly incurred costs to dispose of items and materials damaged by this flooding.

Through this program, the County will provide affected residents with a 50 per cent rebate on the tipping fees they have paid to dispose of waste materials at the Brighton Landfill, the Bewdley Transfer Station, or the Seymour Transfer Station.  In order to qualify for this rebate, the waste materials disposed of must have been generated as a direct result of the recent flooding. This program will be in place until August 31, 2017.

The County is asking affected residents wishing to receive this 50 per cent rebate to complete and submit an application form. Copies of weigh-scale receipts must be attached to the application. County staff may issue a request for proof of flood damage as part of the application review process.

A copy of the application form can be obtained by visiting NorthumberlandCounty.ca/forms or by contacting the County’s Waste Department at WasteDept@northumberlandcounty.ca or by phone at 1-866-293-8379.
