Through the heart of Northumberland County runs Canada's largest toll-free highway, Highway 401. Many communities in Northumberland are directly located on Highway 401 and those who are not have access to it via 503 kms of well-kept county roads. Northumberland County is located 100km east of Toronto, the largest metropolitan area in Canada with a population of over 4 million.

Airports & Seaports

aeroplaneLess than 130km to the west, connected by a 4-12 lane toll free highway, is Canada's largest commercial airport, Lester B. Pearson International Airport. The airport has been in a state of constant expansion and will soon have an infield tunnel for freight traffic in order to decrease traffic on the airfield. By 2020, the airport will be able to service 50 million passengers per year.

Peterborough Airport (CYPQ) and Oshawa Municipal Airport are smaller airports within an hour of Northumberland County. Both airports offer commercial and freight services. Peterborough Airport is the choice of many local manufacturers for charter passenger and freight flights.

shipNorthumberland's nearest seaport is the Port of Oshawa. Located on Lake Ontario, 56km west of Northumberland, the Port of Oshawa is capable of handling ships of all sizes. With a channel and wharf depth of 7.2m-8.2m (26') and a total berth length of 433.2m, the port provides world class service and facilities.
