In 2006, Northumberland County reported over 240,000 acres of farmland in use by 1,031 farms throughout the County. With heats units ranging from 2,900 in the south, to 2,700 in the northern edge of the County, local farmers enjoy an ideal climate for dozens of crops. One third of the County farms are in the cattle and dairy industries and owned a combined total of over 34,000 head of cattle in 2006.
