Destination Development

Welcome to Northumberland County's Destination Development website!

As a result of the successful completion of the Premier-Ranked Tourist Destination Project, Northumberland's Tourism Industry now has a series of actionable recommendations to grow tourism in Northumberland County.

Through the first half of 2010, Northumberland's Tourism Industry worked towards developing a 3-year Destination Development Strategy and Action Plan designed to generate increased visitation, tourism revenues and jobs through 2012.

  • Steering Committee - A Destination Development Committee (DDC) comprised of tourism industry stakeholders has been established to act as a steering committee to help drive the process and implement actionable items. See the DDC Terms of Reference.
  • Working Groups - Currently there are five working groups formed to examine and explore the opportunities around Tourism Awareness, Sports Tourism, Meetings & Conferences, Destination Marketing Organizations (DMO's ) and Arts, Culture and Heritage Development. Other working groups will be formed, as the need arises, to explore other tourism development opportunities.
