Building Successful Packages

Packages have many advantages for you as a tourism supplier.  Packages sell!  Vistors want packages.  Packages or itineraries that someone else has already thought through simplify planning for the visitor.  A package provides one stop shopping, often at one, all-inclusive price.

By creating a new experience through packaging, you can give yourself a competitive advantage by offering a combination that is not offered by others.  Packages have been successful at driving significant revenue streams without capital investment.

Also packages allow guests to have a ītrial runī on a short experience to entice travellers to a new product or new facility.  It allows them to try the experience without a big commitment of time or money.  For example, Ste. Anneīs spa used this approach and introduced a series of one day spa packages from Toronto, with VIA Rail as a partner.

Ontario Tourism's guide to "Packaging Handbook for Tourism Suppliers" goes beyond the theories of packaging and directly to the practical "what do I do now" stage. Itīs a helpful guide compiled by OTMPC field staff, committee members, product facilitators and front-line operators. This manual contains case studies, work sheets, sample itineraries and organizational tools to help you build and market outstanding Ontario tourism packages.
