NOTICE TO RESIDENTS REGARDING NOXIOUS WEEDS

Under the authority of the Municipal Act, the County of Northumberland provides an enforcement service of the Provincial Weed Control Act. However, there is some general confusion as to the intent of the Weed Control Act.

The Provincial statute law was established to assist in protecting the integrity of lands used for agricultural and horticultural purposes (Weed Control Act, R.S.O. 1990, CHAPTER W.5, Section 22). Enforcement in residential areas may be available through local Property Standards Bylaws, administered by your local municipality.

The County of Northumberland may order the removal of noxious weeds that are identified through an inspection of areas of concern that could potentially affect agricultural or horticultural lands.

The list of noxious weeds identified under the Weed Control Act Reg. 1096 includes:
