Recycling & Waste
The Department of Transportation & Waste is responsible for the management of the recycling and waste services provided by the County of Northumberland.
Among the services we provide are:
- Weekly garbage and recycling collection through National Waste Services for all residential homes. We also provide collection services to some commercial establishments.
- Disposal of both residential and commercial wastes through the operation of two active landfills, one transfer station, and continual monitoring and maintenance of seven closed landfills.
- Waste diversion opportunities such as the four household hazardous waste depots, electronics waste disposal, composting programs (backyard and County operated), and bulky waste voucher program for large item disposal.
