Recycling & Waste

The Department of Transportation & Waste is responsible for the management of the recycling and waste services provided by the County of Northumberland.

Among the services we provide are:

  • Weekly garbage and recycling collection through National Waste Services for all residential homes. We also provide collection services to some commercial establishments.
  • Disposal of both residential and commercial wastes through the operation of two active landfills, one transfer station, and continual monitoring and maintenance of seven closed landfills.
  • Waste diversion opportunities such as the four household hazardous waste depots, electronics waste disposal, composting programs (backyard and County operated), and bulky waste voucher program for large item disposal.

The 2nd Annual Mayors' "Keep the County Clean" Challenge is being held the week of April 19 - 24!   Registrations is required at the municipality in which you reside.  See flyer for details.

The 2nd Annual 20-Minute Makeover is back!  On Friday, April 23rd, grab a bag, get outside and grab some litter in your local park, school yard, or neighbourhood.  No registration required.
