Cross-Country Skiing

Cross-Country Skiing
The Northumberland Forest offers what we like to think of as a "rustic" cross-country ski experience. Our trails are not mechanically groomed but they are used only for cross-country skiing in the winter-time, so we depend on our users to create the track-set.

We have 7 cross-country ski trail loops that range from our 1.6km long "kiddie loop" to our 13.3km long Green "A" loop. Our well-marked trails are generally narrower than mechanically groomed ski trails offering more of a woodland experience. As we are on the Oak Ridges Moraine, most trails are hilly and challenging so be prepared for herring boning and snow plowing. Benches are located throughout the trails for resting!

Parking for the Northumberland Forest Cross-Country Ski Trails is located on Beagle Club Road off County Road 45. Facilities are minimal as there is only an outhouse at the trailhead.

Please note that the trails west of Beagle Club Rd are for cross country skiing only from December to March. During that period, other non-motorized users (e.g., hiking, snowshoeing, horseback riding, biking) are asked to use the Woodland Trails across from Woodland Rd or the Carstairs Universal Trail on Bowmanton Rd.

Please also note that dogs are not allowed on the cross-country ski trails during the winter months.
