The County of Northumberland is responsible for the provision of subsidized rental housing units for people with low to moderate incomes, seniors and/or people with special needs.
What is Rent-Geared-to-Income Housing?
Rent-geared-to-income (RGI) assistance provides low income families with safe, affordable community housing. Eligibility to receive RGI assistance is determined in accordance with provincial legislation called the Social Housing Reform Act. Generally RGI ensures that a household pays no more than 30% of its gross income for shelter.

What is the Centralized Waiting List?
Housing Services maintains the centralized waiting list for RGI assistance in Northumberland County. The centralized waiting list fills vacant units for County Housing buildings and for all non-profit, co-operative and municipal housing providers. When you apply and you are determined eligible for RGI assistance, your application will be added to this list.

How long will it take to get a unit?
The centralized waiting list ensures that vacant units are offered according to the date your application was received. The length of time you can expect to wait varies and is based on your building and geographical selections.
