Subsidized Housing

The County of Northumberland is responsible for the provision of subsidized rental housing units for people with low to moderate incomes, seniors and/or people with special needs.

What is Rent-Geared-to-Income Housing?
Rent-geared-to-income (RGI) assistance provides low income families with safe, affordable community housing. Eligibility to receive RGI assistance is determined in accordance with provincial legislation called the Social Housing Reform Act. Generally RGI ensures that a household pays no more than 30% of its gross income for shelter.

Who Can Apply for RGI? You can apply if:

  • You are over 16 years old and are able to live independently.
  • All members of your household must be legal residents of Canada or refugee claimants. No member is currently under deportation, departure or exclusion order to leave Canada.
  • Your household does not owe money to any social housing provider.
  • Your household has not been convicted in a court of law or found by an administrative tribunal to be misrepresenting your income for purposes of RGI assistance.
  • Your household must be willing to pursue other available income including Ontario Works, support payments, employment insurance, pensions or support payments required under a sponsorship agreement.

When you apply and you are determined eligible for RGI assistance, your application will be added to this list.

Where are the buildings located?
