LEAP Program
Children's Services manages and administers this program for young parents in Northumberland County. Learning, Earning and Parenting (LEAP) provides a full range of specialized supports for young parents to complete their high school education and make long-term plans for their family's future.
Learning - A high school diploma opens the door to the future.
LEAP participants are assisted with the costs of school supplies, school activities, clothing, transportation and child care costs while pursuing their high school education.
Earning - Smoothing the transition from school to employment.
LEAP participants are assisted through career counselling, life skills training and employment supports to ensure a successful transition to full-time employment.
Parenting - The best and most challenging job in the world.
LEAP participants, like all new parents, want the best for their children. Parenting information and support is provided through various programs designed to meet the parent's interests and needs such as parenting skills, child development, child guidance techniques and self care.
Going Places - An Outreach Program that provides LEAP participants with parenting information as well as the opportunity to meet and interact with other young parents. This program takes place every Thursday from 3:00 to 6:00 pm. at Northumberland Child Development Centre, 38 Walton St. 3rd Floor, in Port Hope.
