LEAP Program

Learning, Earning And Parenting (LEAP) is an Ontario Works program geared to help young parents get their high school diploma, gain employment experience and enhance their parenting skills.

LEAP provides these young parents with the supports they need  to participate in co-op programs, volunteer opportunities, part-time and/or summer employment, and to attend parenting workshops and/or support groups.

To be eligible for LEAP, you must ...

  • Be a parent who is 25 years old or younger
  • Be in receipt of Ontario Works financial assistance
  • Not have completed high school
  • Attend school regularly to achieve a high school diploma (OSSD)

Please note that LEAP is mandatory for all parents on Ontario Works who are 17 years old and younger. Parents 25 years old and younger are encouraged to take part.

To apply for the LEAP program, contact your Ontario Works caseworker.

LEAP can provide you with extra support ...

  • Free child care while you are in school
  • Money for school supplies, clothes and class trips
  • Money to cover transportation costs to and from school and/or child care
  • Pre-employment supports
  • $500 bursary when you completed the LEAP program. This money can be used to further their education or to invest in a Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP) for your child.

LEAP connects you to places where you can talk ...

  • One-to-one counselling for when you want down-to-earth, real-life advice
  • Support groups where you discuss how other young parents are dealing with their day-to-day challenges
  • Presentations and/or workshops where you can learn more about child development / parenting issues
