Apply for Subsidized Housing

Subsidized Housing is also known as Rent-Geared-to-Income or RGI assistance, and is geared for people with low to moderate incomes, seniors and/or people with special needs. 

Who Can Apply?

You can apply for subsidized housing, if:

  • You are over 16 years old and are able to live independently.
  • All members of your household must be legal residents of Canada or refugee claimants. 
  • Your household does not owe money to a social housing provider. 
  • Your household has not misrepresented your income for purposes of RGI assistance.
  • Your household must be willing to pursue other available income including Ontario Works, support payments, employment insurance, pensions or support payments required under a sponsorship agreement.

How to Apply?

To apply for subsidized housing, you may do one of the following:

  • Pick up an application at the our office located on the lower level at 555 Courthouse Road, Cobourg, ON.
  • Contact us at 905-372-3329, ext. 2304, or toll free at 1-800-354-7050 to have an application mailed to you.

Where are the housing units located?

Subsidized housing units are located in Brighton, Campbellford, Cobourg, Colborne, Hastings, Port Hope and Warkworth. For a listing of all building locations, click here.

When will you get housed?

Once you have submitted a complete application and your eligibility for subsidized housing has been confirmed, you will then be placed on a waiting list. The waiting time will vary depending on the locations you select on the application, the number of bedrooms you need, and the vacancy turnover rate.
