Council to judge artwork submitted for Local Government Week ‘Paint the Plow’ contest

Posted on Tuesday October 16, 2018

Cobourg, ON – October 15, 2018 –  In celebration of Local Government Week (October 14-20), Northumberland County councillors will take time after their monthly meeting this Wednesday to adjudicate the artwork of local elementary schools who have participated in this year’s ‘Paint the Plow’ contest. Members of the media are invited to take photos of this ‘walk-about’.

Four schools from throughout Northumberland signed up to paint the blades of County snow plows based on the theme ‘Partners Today for a Terrific Tomorrow’. These plows will be on display at County headquarters on Wednesday morning. Participating schools include:

  • Terry Fox Public School, Cobourg
  • St. Mary’s Catholic Elementary School, Grafton
  • Kent Public School, Campbellford
  • Spring Valley Public School, Brighton

The school with the winning artwork will be awarded a tour of the County recycling plant (the Material Recovery Facility), including a pizza lunch.

Local Government Week activities are an opportunity for municipalities to raise awareness about the important function of municipal government within our community. The ‘Paint the Plow’ contest encourages students to reflect on the connections they have day-to-day with their local level of government.
