Potential Canada Post Labour Disruption

Posted on Thursday September 20, 2018

In the event of a Canada Post Labour Disruption, as early as September 26, residents and community partners are encouraged to take note of the alternate options for:

  • Community & Social Services payments information
  • Appearances in Provincial Court, or related court system payments and correspondence

 Community & Social Services

A disruption in mail service will mean that cheques for Ontario Works (OW) payments issued after September 19, 2018 will not be delivered.

  • Payments made through Direct Deposit will not be impacted. If you have not already done so, we encourage you to set up Direct Deposit into your bank account for OW payments. For your convenience, we have enclosed the necessary form, which can be delivered back to our office along with a void cheque. Paper statements confirming the deposit into your account will be held at our office until mail service resumes.
  • Only in the event of a strike or lock-out: If you choose to continue receiving your payments by cheque, all cheques issued after September 18th, 2018 will be available for pick-up from the Community & Social Services office at Northumberland County Headquarters in Cobourg, except for the following:
  • Cheques for clients residing in Trent Hills will be available for pick-up on September 27, 2018 at our Campbellford Hub location (65 Bridge Street East, Campbellford ON) from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m.
  • Cheques for clients residing in Brighton will be available for pick-up on September 27, 2018 at our Brighton hub location (170 Main Street, Brighton ON) from 2 until 4 p.m.
  • Due to the potential of clients not being able to submit income reporting statements due to mail disruption, we will release payments without this information until mail service resumes.

We continue to encourage clients to contact the Interactive Voice Response (IVR) System at 1-800-808-2268 to confirm that their payment has been issued prior to contacting the office.
